Bulk-SMS is when a message is being delivered through loopholes in the mobile network operators billing platform or is bouncing between several mobile operators to avoid the interconnect fee at the last mobile operator.
These messaging routes are very often not good and it's very common that your message never reaches the recipient (but you are probably still being charged for the message). If you can go for an interconnected route - do so. It's worth those extra cents to get a decent route for your messages, especially if you are handling business critical information. Interconnect-what? is probably your question right now. The interconnect fee is a charge from the mobile network operator to accept the message into their SMS-platform. These fees are never negotiable and is the main reason why sending SMS is "expensive". For example a message could cost $0.015 to deliver, but with for example an interconnect fee of $0.045 it adds up to a total cost of atleast $0.060. The provider of the service also adds some cents to cover for their costs and make a few bucks themselves. Check our section "Send SMS" for more information. |
